Our Process

At Saguaro Skulls we are dedicated to the use of dermestid beetles in our preservation process. Using dermestid beetles for cleaning skulls is a natural and efficient method that ensures a detailed, preservation-friendly result. These small beetles are scavengers that feed on flesh, gently removing soft tissue without damaging the bone. Once the skull is prepared, it's placed in a controlled environment where the beetles can safely and thoroughly clean it over the course of several days. This process allows for a precise and delicate clean, preserving the skull’s integrity and structure, making it ideal for European-style taxidermy and long-lasting display.
